GREASES - Types and Uses

Grease is a lubricant oil with a dispersion of thickening agents in a liquid lubricant. The formula is around 80% - 90% based on oil; some greases use a mineral base or synthetic oils, depending on which type of the oil influences the performance or uses of the grease. The characteristic of grease is its own high viscosity and It can be used in parts that don't need to be often lubricated. There are some types of grease, these are the most common types in the market:

Rubber Grease

Rubber Grease is a type of grease that is applied in vehicles, industrial, hydraulic dust covers, seals and washers, etc. It is recommended also to use where the resistance of hydrocarbon solvents is required.

Red Grease

Red Grease is a multipurpose grease type generally synthetic, that can be used to lubricate and protect mechanical equipment and parts. The colour can sometimes indicate the temperature ( if it is higher or not).

Lithium Grease

Lithium Grease is a very common grease in the market ( representing 75% of the lubricants used) It is a type of grease with high viscosity, stability, and durability, made to protect against oxidation, corrosion, and extreme temperatures.

There are a few types of grease in the market, each one with different properties that support the performance and ensure they can best operate in certain conditions. Before choosing what type of grease will be better for your engine, we have some recommendations about what you should pay attention to:

Viscosity: Before choosing the grease it is important to check the oil viscosity, the greases that have higher viscosity are generally more water resistant and suitable to heavy-duty and high temperatures. Greases with low viscosity generally protect in low temperatures.

Compatibility: It is important to check the compatibility of the grease with your engine, prevent incompatibility and ensure optimum performance.

Base Oil Type: Generally synthetic base oil offers high resistance to oxidation and lubricant film thickness. Helping in the protection even in high temperatures. Synthetic Base oils also help reduce energy consumption and result in reduced friction.
